Web 2.0 "Bubble" is NOT about to Burst

Over the past year now I have read various articles saying that the Web 2.0 "Bubble" is about to burst and I have a big problem with this. This article pushed me over the edge to actually write about it.

First of all it is not a bubble. Web 2.0 is a platform, not some kind of get rich quick scheme like the 2000 era sites. Not everyone is creating startups and selling them for big money. Investors know what's already happened and are more cautious in their decisions. There are some cool sites out there that are getting a little bit of funding, but most of them die rather than sell. Just check the TechCrunch dead pool.

Bloggers have been expecting this "bubble" to "pop" for a year now and it hasn't. It won't pop or even hiccup. This is technology and the future of software. It's like saying that the OS bubble is about to burst. Stupid right? These terms like "Web 2.0" tick me off too. All of the Web 2.0 terminology does actually. Haven't you seen the generators? They are making fun of those terms, not encouraging them. This is not a new version of the web; it's a reference for describing a site that is using some of the latest technologies and architecture. Web 2.0 does not reference design. When I say design I mean graphics because design can also mean other things. It drives me nuts to see job positions for "Web 2.0 Designers".

Stop saying "Web 2.0", "Bubble", and "Burst". Thanks.
